Into Wimbledon semis

01 July, 2009 | 17:07

Andy has become the first Brit since Tim Henman in 2001 to make the semi-finals of Wimbledon after a comprehensive 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 win over Juan Carlos Ferrero.

He'll now face either Lleyton Hewitt or Andy Roddick for a place in the final.

The win was in stark contrast to the thriller with Wawrinka, coming in less than two hours: no bad thing on a day when the mercury was pushing right up.

After sealing the first set late on, Andy went up a gear in the second set, overturning an early break and winning 21 of 22 points that included three breaks, and three straight aces to finish.

The Spanish former World No.1 fended off a break point in game three of the third set, only for a crashing forehand to seal a break in game five.

Another break would follow as Andy put the match to bed in one hour 41 minutes.
