Andy is out of the Masters Series event in Rome after losing 6-2 7-6(5) to Stan Wawrinka in their second round match.
Breaks in games four and eight of a first set punctuated by Andy getting attention from the trainer saw Wawrinka establish the early lead.
Breaks both ways in the second saw the match culminate in a tie-break, with the Swiss ultimately coming out on top.
Under the late afternoon sunshine on the Foro Italico, it was Wawrinka who made the early breakthrough; having saved a break point on his own serve, he then broke for a 3-1 lead after reading the drop shot.
Extending his advantage to 4-1, Andy then called for the trainer, but would wait until he was in his chair at 5-2 down to be seen.
Sadly, the Swiss made then made the most of three break points to grab the double break, and take the set 6-2.
Coming out strongly at the start of the second, Andy executed a great drop shot for the early break, before holding to 15 for the 2-0 lead.
He maintained the advantage until Wawrinka established two break points, and converted to bring the set back on serve at 4-4.
A comfortable hold saw the Swiss No. 2 move to 5-4, and at 0-40 up in the next game he looked the strong favourite to wrap up the match there and then.
But great work from Andy saw him save those three, and an another break point for the hold, and the match would ultimately move into a tie-break which the Swiss edged 7-5.
So, Andy's mate Stan it is who goes into the third round and a match against Juan Carlos Ferrero who stunned everyone by beating Rafa Nadal 7-5 6-1.
