Points with Slabinsky

08 October, 2008 | 21:10

Andy was on court early Wednesday, getting his racquets ready for a couple of sets against Alex Slabinsky...

'Slaba' has been down at the NTC with his coach on and off over the last few weeks; this wasn't the first time they'd played some points....

Having spent hours, even days doing various drills - volleys included - it's interesting to see the players put that all into practice...

The skills are looking pretty sharp at the moment. Andy's pretty happy with how he's hitting the ball, which can add up to a lot of running for his opponents...

Slaba's a great competitor...

But whilst the sets are competitive, there are some lighter moments between points as the coaches hurry around picking up balls and offering the odd word or two...

But they're quickly back into it, grinding it out once again....

Just to prove being a tennis coach isn't all glamour, here's Miles - in full straddle -  adjusting the net.

He insists on adjusting the height of the net with alarming regularity..

After an hour or so they were done, Andy walking off court having won a couple of comfortable sets.

That was it for tennis; lunch taking up a good couple of hours before the subject of gym work reared its head.

And that's exactly where they spent the next few hours - working the upper body and legs...

Here's Andy lifting 28kg's with the swiss ball...

The nastiest part of the routine is the chin-ups, five of them with a 10kg weight attached to your waist to be specific. Not nice at the best of times, but after a full morning on court it must be terrible.

Still, he'll sleep well tonight.
