Saturday: serving big

22 June, 2008 | 17:06

Bit overdue, but here's a quick catch-up on what was happening  Saturday at Wimbledon...

Not for the first time, Dani was putting Maria thorugh her paces. In a tennis sense...

Meanwhile, just a short walk away, Andy was hitting with Jonas Bjorkman.

Nice guy Bjorkman, and a great athlete for his age. I'm sure he wouldn't mind us saying that...

Heavy conditions at Aorangi at the weekend, but Andy was still serving pretty big. Jonas' coach had to pull a couple of balls out of the back fence...

At the other end of the courts - Rafa Nadal. Think this was his first proper hit since Queen's. He was striking the ball well; very flat actually.

Practice sessions are pretty regimented at Aorangi - you hit for an set amount of time, then you make room for someone else.

On this occasion, 'someone else' just happened to be Novak Djokovic...

As Andy wandered off to grab lunch (before a fitness session with Matt and Jez), there was just time to grab a glimpse of Fabrice Santoro.

You don't see many players hitting them like that anymore...

And that was it really.

The 'hard' fitness work is kind of done by this stage, so Saturday's session with Treacle and Jez was the last little block before the tournament gets underway.

As far as Andy's concerned, the main focus now is on the matches of course...

So, with that session done (over at the covered courts) he was straight in the shower, and then a cab, before heading out for dinner with the team to celebrate AI's birthday.
