AGED 2 -  first racket

AGED 3 - starts playing tennis. First with sponge balls against the wall indoors, then outside on Swingball

AGED 5 - first tournament (under-10's) at Dunblane Sports club

AGED 8 - debut for Dunblane Sports Club, men's 3rd team. Partners architect John Clark. Andy tells off his partner for standing too close to the net as he risks getting lobbed. Clark is in his fifties

AGED 11 - begins working with coach Leon Smith. Despite an eleven year age gap, they remain friends to this day

AGED 12 - wins prestigious Orange Bowl tournament in Miami. The only person in the under- 12 event to eventually turn pro

AGED 13 - Glasgow Rangers want to sign Andy. He turns them down, despite family 'form' in the sport (grandad played for Hibernian)

AGED 15
- leaves Scotland to train at the Sanchez-Casal academy in Barcelona. Sadly for him, meets Carlos Mier, a Peruvian student several years above him. They remain friends (sort of) to this day

2004

AGED 17 - Wins US Open boys title, beating Sergiy Stakhovsky

AGED 17 - BBC Young Sports Personality of the year

AGED 17  - Becomes youngest ever player to represent Britain in Davis Cup, partnering David Sherwood in their defeat of world No. 5 doubles pair Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel

Jeremy Bates describes it as "one of the best performances I've ever seen, I was shaking like a leaf."

2005


Turns Pro. First ATP Tour match is as wildcard versus Jan Hernych at the Seat Open. Loses to the world No. 63

AGED 18 - first ATP tour final (versus Federer, Bangkok), in just his eighth ATP Tour event. Tim Henman's first final came in his 34th ATP event

AGED 18 -  youngest British player in the top 100 since 1974. Only four players - Borg, Hewitt, Nadal and Roddick - were younger

2006

AGED 18 -  first ATP tour title (San Jose). Beats two Grand Slam Champions (Hewitt/Roddick) on way to title

Breaks top 50 for the first time, with only Borg, Hewitt, Nadal and Roddick managing it younger

British number one for the first time

AGED 18 - makes third round of Wimbledon in his first ever Grand Slam appearance, taking ex-finalist David Nalbandian to five sets.

Made biggest jump of any player in the Top 100 from previous year, climbing 449 ranking spots...

Second-youngest player in year-end Top 100 (behind Djokovic)...

First teen from Great Britain to finish in year-end Top 100 since Buster Mottram in 1974

2007

JANUARY - Opened account as runner-up in Doha (l. to Ljubicic)

JANUARY
- Made 4th round at Aussie Open (l. to Nadal in 5 sets)

FEBRUARY - Defended San Jose title in February (d. Karlovic)

APRIL - misses one month after picking up back injury in Monte Carlo

MAY - misses three nearly three months after picking up wrist injury in Hamburg

JUNE - Still reaches career high No. 8 in ATP rankings

SEPTEMBER  - Led GB back into 2008 Davis Cup World Group by winning both of his singles matches vs. Croatia in playoff

OCTOBER - Captures third career ATP title in St Petersburg (d. Verdasco)

NOVEMBER - Narrowly misses out on Masters Cup place despite nearly four months out

Finishes season with best indoor record on ATP tour (23-5)

2008

JANUARY - captures fourth career ATP title in Doha (d. Wawrinka)

FEBRUARY - captures fifth career ATP title in Marseille (d. Ancic)

MARCH - knocks Roger Federer out in first round of Dubai Championship, to move to a 2-1 record against the world No. 1

JULY - reaches 4th round at Wimbledon, after coming from 2 sets down against Richard Gasquet.

AUGUST - lifts first Masters Series shield (Cincinnati) after defeating Novak Djokovic for second time in a week, 7-6 7-6

SEPTEMBER - reaches first Grand Slam final, defeating Rafeal Nadal for the first time en route to loss versus Federer.

Career high of 4 in world.
